I paid £14.99 for a pair of Harbour Housewares Folding Stools, and they’ve turned out to be a simple but surprisingly useful addition to my camping setup.

Although they work perfectly well as small stools, I mainly use them as footrests with my camping chairs, which makes sitting around the campsite considerably more comfortable.

They feel sturdy for their size, fold away quickly and, most importantly for camping, take up very little storage space. At around £7.50 each, I think they’re excellent value for something that can serve as both a stool and a footrest.

Verdict

The Harbour Housewares Folding Stools are a simple camping accessory that I’ve ended up finding more useful than I initially expected.

For me, their best use is as footrests alongside my camping chairs. They’re a convenient height for putting my feet up, while still giving me the option of using them as additional seating when required.

They also solve one of the biggest problems with camping furniture: storage. They fold away neatly and take up very little room, so adding two of them to the camping equipment doesn’t create much additional bulk.

They’re obviously not a substitute for a comfortable full-size camping chair if you’re planning to sit for hours, but that’s not really what they’re designed for.

For the £14.99 I paid for the pair, I’m very happy with them.

My Recommendation

I’d recommend the Harbour Housewares Folding Stools if you’re looking for an inexpensive, compact stool or footrest for camping, the garden, fishing or days out.

I particularly recommend them as footrests for folding camping chairs. That’s how I mainly use mine, and for around £7.50 each they provide a cheap way of making a camping setup considerably more comfortable.

If you want something for sitting on for several hours, I’d choose a proper camping chair instead. But as compact occasional seating or a portable footrest, they’ve been ideal for what I wanted.

My Experience

I’ve currently used the Harbour Housewares stools on one camping trip and once in the garden, and so far they’ve done exactly what I wanted from them.

My main reason for using them isn’t actually as stools. I pair them with my camping chairs and use them as footrests, which makes relaxing outside the tent much more comfortable.

They’re also perfectly usable as stools when an extra seat is needed, which gives them a little more versatility than buying a dedicated camping footrest.

I’ve found them to be surprisingly sturdy considering how small and lightweight they are. They fold away easily and don’t take up much room amongst the rest of my camping equipment, which is a big advantage when packing the car.

There’s nothing particularly complicated or clever about them, but that’s also part of their appeal. They’re inexpensive, compact and useful.

At £14.99 for two, they work out at roughly £7.50 each, and I’ve got no complaints about the value so far.
